In the year 2002, “Kaviya” was established with the view of empowering the society who were affected economically and educationally, live below the poverty line. At the same time, build self-confidence, self-motivation and leadership among women. Kaviya commenced working in all 14 divisional secretariat division and discharging its duties and services to their beneficiaries. During Tsunami devastation and pre and post conflict period, Kaviya was one of the forerunners in discharging services to the affected community and continue to work in Tsunami camps in the district of Batticaloa. Currently we are working 14 Divisional secretariat areas as well women Entrepreneurship development to develop market oriented strategy and implement to improve access to available markets within and outside the district for the products of women entrepreneurs.

To be leading national level organization ensuring gender equality and sustainable socio economic development through women and youth empowerment, entrepreneurship development, expanding cooperative business culture and ensuring women and youth participation in decision making.

Livelihood support was given to the beneficiaries mentioned above. On their own selection of job. They were requested by us that their family support is important to continue their jobs .A meeting held KAVIYA which is a leading women’s organization working in Batticaloa for the past 15 years on Rural Women affected by war & Tsunami. KAVIYA mainly focus on livelihood development of women particularly of widows and women-headed families, confirming to gender based equity in all activities through empowerment programe on training and financial support. As a development goal, KAVIYA works towards to enhance the marketing facilities to improve the income of the women. For this purpose, they use their local and overseas business linkages and regularly organize district and divisional level trade fairs for women and support the participation of women entrepreneurs at the national level events.
